The theme for this year’s parade "Saluting Israel, Celebrating America ... Two Golden Lands" marked 350 years of Jewish community life in America and the 57th anniversary of the State of Israel. Students and alumni from Yeshiva College, Stern College for Women, Albert Einstein College of Medicine, Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law and The Marsha Stern Talmudical Academy –– Yeshiva University High School for Boys enthusiastically carried banners as well as Israeli and American flags. Volunteers from Lman Achai, a grassroots student-run organization targeting hunger and poverty in Israel, collected several thousand dollars at the parade. The “Feed Israel’s Hungry” initiative has raised more than $75,000 raised since February. “Blue Fringe,” a rock band made up of four young men who met at Yeshiva University, performed on the float, delighting the marchers and parade participants.
